Requirements for a hosting, VPS or servers in general in China

Any website hosted in China requires a valid ICP license under Chinese law. The corresponding ICP number must be displayed visibly on the corresponding website. This legal regulation was introduced by the Chinese state so that no one can anonymously publish content that violates Chinese laws or censorship regulations on the Internet via their own website.

Websites that are operated in China without a valid ICP license will be completely blocked and blacklisted after a short period of time. Removing such an entry from the blacklist involves many hurdles.

If you cannot apply for an ICP license, an alternative is to host your website outside of China, which can achieve a certain performance increase through other criteria, such as a direct line to China or geographical proximity to China (e.g. Hong Kong). If possible, you should always seek to host the website directly in China, as this will ensure optimal performance of the website.
