Blank page or timeout when accessing the weber.cloud hosting management

If you want to switch to the associated management in the list of your hostings in the weber.cloud customer area, it can happen under certain circumstances that you only see a blank page instead of the desired interface or that the request ultimately times out after a long loading time. In most cases, the reason for this is that port 8443 is blocked by your firewall.

What is a port?

A port is basically a door in your network through which data can flow. Each application uses specific ports to send and receive data. A firewall determines which doors can be used by which applications and can close certain ports completely. However, if you block a port that is required by an application, its functionality will be disrupted.

How is port 8443 related to hosting management in the weber.cloud?

In general, port 8443 is used for secure connections (HTTPS) and serves as an alternative to the standard port 443 for HTTPS connections. Port 8443 is usually used when HTTPS is required for several applications on the same web server, but both applications cannot use the standard port 443 at the same time.

Both your websites and the associated management interface are operated on your weber.cloud hosting. In this case, your websites already use port 443 for HTTPS connections, so the alternative port 8443 is used to access the management interface. This approach offers a clear separation between your websites and the management of the hosting. If, for example, your website no longer works for some reason, you can still log into the hosting management, look for the causes of the problems and may even be able to solve these issues.

How do I know if access to the hosting administration is blocked by a firewall?

If you were able to log into the weber.cloud customer area without any problems and the issue only occurs when you switch to the management of your hosting, it is likely that the access is blocked by a firewall. Such a blockage usually manifests itself in one of two ways:

  • A new tab opens in your browser, it loads briefly and then you only see a blank page without any content.
  • A new tab opens in your browser, but it takes a long time to load and the request is ultimately aborted. You may receive a message from your browser that the connection was interrupted, the page did not respond for too long, or the access was denied.

How can I access the hosting administration again?

The problem can be solved by re-opening port 8443 in your firewall. The corresponding adjustment to your firewall is usually made by your IT administrators. They can also check that port 8443 was actually blocked.
