By caching files of your website on the proxy cache server, the performance of your website in China can be significantly improved. By default, the proxy cache server provides the following durations for caching files:

File type Cache duration
Pictures (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .webp, .svg, .svgz, .ico) 90 days
Stylesheets (.css, 30 days
Javascripts (.js, 30 days
Documents (.pdf, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .csv) 90 days
Videos (.mp4, .flv, .webm, .ogg) 90 days
Fonts (.woff, .woff2, .ttf, .otf, .eot, .svg) 90 days
Archives (.zip, .gz) 90 days
HTML documents (.html, .htm) 7 days
All other file types 7 days

The precise cache logic for your website is determined when setting up the proxy cache server. Cache durations can be adjusted, additional cache durations can be created for certain file types or certain areas, and pages can be completely excluded from caching. For each file, you can also specify the desired cache duration in seconds via the HTTP header information "X-Accel-Expires". This value overwrites the generally defined cache durations and allows you to specify cache durations for specific files as needed.

Due to the caching of files, changes to your website will only be visible in China after a certain delay. If you want to update the status of the website in China directly, there are two ways to delete the cache:

  • You can delete the entire cache of the website via
  • By appending the ?proxycachecontrol=renewcurrentpage parameter to a URL, you can delete the respective file from the cache. For example, if you opened, the HTML document related to the News subpage would be deleted from the cache. With this option you can selectively delete individual files, such as HTML documents, style sheets, etc. from the cache without directly emptying the entire cache of the website.

In both cases you have to authenticate yourself with appropriate credentials, which you will receive from us when setting up the proxy cache server. If you no longer have your access data to hand, please feel free to contact us.
